Standard Blood Bank Techniques

Acid-EDTA Elution/Other standard methods may be used in difficult cases.

Direct Antiglobulin Test

 

Specimen Requirement

A 5 mL EDTA purple-top tube is preferred.  Specimens may be kept at room temperature for up to 24 hours.  After 24 hours, specimens should be refrigerated. 

Additional Specimen Collection Information

7 mL red-top, 5 mL heparin green-top or 5 mL blue-top tubes are also acceptable. Serum and plasma gel tubes are not acceptable.

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Antibody Identification turn-around time is dependent on the complexity of the work involved in identifying the antibody(ies). Antibodies that cannot be identified by methods used in the hospital Blood Bank are referred to the reference laboratory for further testing.
