Specimen Requirement

10 mL of urine is required. First morning void is recommended.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

Collect the first morining void into a clean specimen container with a tight fitting lid. Label the specimen appropriately with two identifiers, patient name and another identifier, (patient ID number, DOB, etc.) include date and time of collection. Protect the urine from strong light prior to transport. Transport urine collections to laboratory as soon as possible. Urine, protected from strong light, may be stored at room temperature for up to 2 hours. If a delay in transport may exceed 2 hours, refrigerate the specimen for up to 4 hours. Specimens not meeting the above storage criteria may be rejected.

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Routine orders: Typically completed within 4 hours after the speicmen arrives at the testing site.

Expedite orders: Typically completed within 1 hour after the specimen arrives at the testing site.

STAT orders: Typically completed within 20 minutes after the specimen arrives at the testing site.
