Specimen Requirement

10 mL random urine is required.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

Collect a random urine specimen in a plastic container. No preservative required. Label the specimen appropriately with two identifiers, patient name and another identifier, (patient ID number, DOB, etc.) include date and time of collection. Store the urine specimen refrigerated and transport to the lab within 48 hours.

 

Labs submitting specimens to MercyOne should aliquot 10 mL and send in a plastic transport tube. Label the tube with patient name and two identifiers (patient ID number, DOB, etc.). Store the urine specimen refrigerated and transport to the lab within 48 hours.

Performance

MercyOne:

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Typically completed within 4 hours after the specimen arrives at the testing site .

MA:

Testing is performed as specimens are received in the lab.

Routine: Typically completed within 4 hours after the specimen arrives at the testing site.

STAT: Typically completed within 30 minutes after the specimen arrives at the testing site.
