Test Method
Direct Enzyme; Beckman DxC700AU
Specimen Requirement
EDTA plasma on ice is preferred. Lithium heparin plasma on ice is also acceptable.
Additional Specimen Collection Information
Collect blood in a EDTA or lithium heparin, green-top tube and immediately place on wet-ice. Serum and plasma gel tubes are NOT acceptable.The plasma must be separated from the cells within 30 minutes of collection. Transfer the plasma to a tightly capped disposable tube. Plasma aliquots stored on wet-ice are stable for 3 hours. Do not freeze the specimen. Hemolyzed specimens are not acceptable. Lipemic specimens must be cleared prior to analysis.
Performance
Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.
Due to the specimen requirements all tests for ammonia are performed as soon as possible upon arrival at the testing site.
