Test Code 460 HLA Typing (Histocompatibility Testing)

Important Note

HLA typing and procurement of HLA specific blood components is done at Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. All orders must be approved by a pathologist. Call the HLA Testing Lab and notify them that a specimen is coming. A single charge includes the patient and up to 3 additional family members. An HLA search surcharge will be also be added.

Test Method

Serological Complement-Dependent Flow Cytometry

Specimen Requirement

2-3 ACD (Solution A) yellow-top tubes are required.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

 

Samples must reach the HLA Lab within 48 hours of collection. Collect blood in two (or three if the WBC <2000/mm3 or Total Lymphocyte Count <1000/mm3) yellow-top (ACD [Solution  A]) tubes and send to Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. Do not transfer blood to other containers. This test requires adequate numbers of viable lymphocytes, which are more likely to be present in fresher samples. Send specimen in a regular mailing carton and label outside. Enclose a “Request for HLA Typing” form. Do not refrigerate.

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Friday.
