Important Note

All specimens sent to the laboratory for cytological evaluation must be accompanied by the proper requisition [varies depending on whether inpatient or outpatient]. All specimens must be labeled with patient name, date and time of collection and the type of specimen. Prepared slides must have the patient's name and date collected written in pencil on the frosted end of the glass slide.

The following information is needed for an accurate cytological evaluation: age, LMP (last menstrual period) or any other pertinent clinical history (i.e.: spotting, hormonal therapy, previous abnormal smears, previous gynecological surgery, IUD, chemotherapy, radiation therapy).

Cervical specimen collected in SurePath Preservative Fluid.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

All specimens for Cytology must be properly labeled with patient name, identification number, date and time collected and the type of specimen. Submit with the proper requisition.

 

Gynecological specimen collected using the Cervex Broom inserted into a SurePath Pap specimen transport media. The specimen is stable for 3 weeks at room temperature (15-30°C).

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Friday.

Typically evaluation is completed and reported within 10 days after the specimen arrives at the testing site.
