Specimen Requirement

Swube Paddle used for collection is required.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

Specimens are best obtained a few hours after the patient has retired [between 2100 and midnight] because of the migratory habits of the female pinworm or in the morning immediately upon rising before bathing or bowel movement.

Collection Instructions:

  1. Use a Pinworm Collection Kit.
  2. Remove the "Swube Paddle" from the tube.
  3. Separate the buttocks and press the tacky surface against several areas of the perianal region.
  4. Replace the paddle in the tube.
  5. Label the specimen appropriately with two identifiers, patient name and another identifier, (patient ID number, DOB, etc.) include specimen source, date and time of collection.
  6. Transport the specimen to the laboratory immediately.
  7. Specimens should be refrigerated if examination is delayed for more than one day.

Performance

Performed Monday through Saturday.

Typically completed within 24 hours after the specimen arrives at the testing site.
