Gastric/Bile aspirate material is collected in a disposable mucus trap.
Additional Specimen Collection Information
Gastric/Bile aspirate material is collected in a disposable mucus trap following intubation through the nose and stomach into the upper small intestine. Submit the specimen unfixed to the laboratory. If the specimen cannot be examined within 1 hour it is fixed with 10% formalin using a 1:3 dilution of specimen to fixative.
Performance
Typically completed within 24 hours after the specimen arrives at the testing site.
Reference Values
No parasites seen.
Positive results are called to the nurse's station or physician office.
