Test Method

Wright Stained Blood Smear with Microscopy

Specimen Requirement

Wright-stained peripheral blood smears on an EDTA sample collected within 8 hours of the time received at MercyOne Laboratory.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

Wright-stained smears or whole blood collected in EDTA purple-top tube (< 8 hrs old). The tube must be at least one quarter full to be acceptable for testing. Capillary specimen collected in EDTA microtube is also acceptable. The  tube must contain at least 375 mcL (bottom line) to be acceptable for testing.

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Friday.

Same day on orders received by 1300. Interpretation by a pathologist
