This is ordered if a clinician requests pathologist review of a blood smear for CBC with Differential already completed by MercyOne Laboratory. Notify the laboratory of the date and time of the CBC with Differential order that requires smear review by a pathologist.

Test Method

Wright Stained Blood Smear with Microscopy

Specimen Requirement

EDTA whole blood is required.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

Whole blood collected in EDTA purple-top tube. The tube must be at least one quarter full to be acceptable for testing.

Capillary specimen collected in EDTA microtube. The  tube must contain at least 375 mcl (bottom line) to be acceptable for testing.

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Same day on orders received by 1300. Interpretation by a pathologist
