Test Method

Sysmex XN and XS Systems:

  • HGB:   Converted to SLS-hemoglobin and read photometrically.
  • HCT: Measured as ratio of the total RBC volume to whole blood using cumulative pulse height detection.

Specimen Requirement

EDTA whole blood is required.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

Whole blood collected in EDTA purple-top tube. The tube must be at least one quarter full to be acceptable for testing.

Capillary specimen collected in EDTA microtube. The  tube must contain at least 375 mcL (bottom line) to be acceptable for testing.

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Routine orders: Typically completed within 4 hours after the specimen arrives at the testing site.

Expedite orders: Typically completed within 1 hour after the specimen arrives at the testing site.

STAT orders: Typically completed within 30 minutes after the specimen arrives at the testing site.
